Sennheiser HD 4.50 Noise Canceling Headphones Review

The Sennheiser HD 4.50(click to see the current price) are some of the best noise canceling headphones that you can get for under $200. That being said this has made it lack a few of the premium features that we usually see from Sennheiser. While they sacrificed these extra features they did not sacrifice any sound quality. After testing them for a few weeks I have a clear opinion of them. I think they are a great pair of noise-canceling headphones.

Here is why I think they are great.

You can expect a very comfortable fit from the Sennheiser HD 4.50 headphones. This is primarily due to the fact that they are very light. They are just as light as the more premium Bose Q35’s weight only 236 grams. They are made almost entirely of plastic. This plastic does not feel flimsy or cheap at all and the headphones have a very sturdy feeling to them.

The earcups have plenty of really soft padding. The padding does a very good job at forming to your ears. Making them very unlikely to tire your ears.

One thing I noticed when wearing them is that there is not a lot of padding on the top of the headband. The little padding did make them a little uncomfortable on the head for a few days until I was able to get used to it.

I also experience a lot of clamping pressure the first time I used the headphones. This has now gone-away and is not bothering me at all.

Noise Canceling

The  Sennheiser HD 4.50 come equipped with active noise canceling. They are equipped with the same noise canceling technology as the Sennheiser PXC 550 which are Sennheiser’s much more premium pair of noise-canceling headphones. With this technology, they were able to reduce outside noise considerably. However, you can still hear people talking and background noise if they are just a little too loud.

For my taste these headphones are able to cancel enough of the outside noise, allowing me to enjoy anything that I’m listening to. While not making me feel like my ears are in an airtight cabin.

The insulation on these headphones on these headphones allows them to block some noise when the active noise canceling is turned off.

Sound Quality

The audio on the Sennheiser HD 4.50 is very balanced. You will get a sound that is very accurate and clean. The bass is also very good. You get a nice neutral bass that does not sound altered or boosted. While the in the midrange I noticed that it could use a little more resolution. This would make the sound a lot more vibrant which I would appreciate. The highs are good with roll-back which makes these headphones very easy to listen to.

Overall the audio quality is great for the average consumer. However, I think they would benefit from being a little louder. I was able to use them on full volume during some song with no problems. I personally like my headphones really loud.
